Whats the correct way to do an oil change?Just attempted one on the P1, first time so popped my cherry .
Anyway this is how I did it once engine reached operating temp.
Raised car up evenly on axle stands.
Remove under tray.
Remove oil filler cap and crank sensor.
Remove sump plug and watch all the oil spill over my carpet as didn't have catch tank positioned properly.
Remove old oil filter.
Whilst the oil drained, fill up new filter with fresh oil..
Replace sump plug with new washer and replace new filter.
Put car on wheels and fill up the car with fresh oil till reached half way on dip stick.
Dry crank it till the oil can light went out.
Re-connect the crank sensor and start car.
Put under tray back on.
All seems to be ok, either that or once driving again it'll cost me an engine but hope not. Fingers crossed.

Sounds good to me.
Thats the way Scotty boy does mine..............except without the jacking and axle stand mularkey as he has a handy pit in his garage.
Speaking of which...............

Why would you want to fill the filter up before putting it on
is that the way the mechanics do it, i've never did that, but there again who am i to question things mechanical

Some do some don't mate, they say that if you don't it can cause engine failure i.e. big ends going. It's not something i have had to do in the past and have never had an engine go bang. That's why Andy gets his dad to change his oil and not me

Agree with Stu that some do some dont,I only bother when working on a Subaru (for all the time it takes to do anyway)
Klunker- garage will be finished this weekend, next week getting the body work sprayed and repaired and possible spoiler fitted (if I can find one on Fleebay in time) so the garage should be empty after next friday for your motor to receive a wee service.
